Andrew Nicholl (1804-1886) was a renowned Irish landscape painter, celebrated for his vivid water-colours and topographical scenes. Born in Belfast, he began his career as an apprentice printer but soon pursued his passion for art.
With encouragement from his brother William and patronage from Sir James Emerson Tennent, Nicholl studied in London and later taught at the Colombo Academy in Sri Lanka. His work often featured wildflowers framing distant landscapes, a style that became his signature. Nicholl exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Academy in London, earning recognition for his distinctive technique.
Today, his works are held in major collections worldwide.
