Lorraine Connelly-Northey - 'Narrbong'.
Bag of rusted square mesh with fencing wire

Inspired by the Mallee and Riverina bush environments of North-Western Victoria where she grew up, Waradgerie artist Lorraine Connelly-Northey creates sculptures and installations that relate to her family's history and her personal connection to the land.

Using found materials such as chicken wire and corrugated iron, Lorraine appropriates traditional weaving techniques to create striking contemporary forms. Her work is re-imagined, yet resembles original cultural objects made by her Elders, and is, the Australian Design Centre believes, an invaluable element of keeping Indigenous tradition alive.
