An ebony framed miniature portrait of Melisina Chevenix Trench 1768-1826. Circa 1790.
Melesina Chevenix Trench (born Melesina Chenevix in Dublin in 1768) was an Irish writer, poet and diarist whose vivid journals and letters gained recognition only after her death.
During her lifetime she was celebrated for her beauty and social presence in Europe, where she met figures like Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton during her travels. Her extensive private writings, including diaries from her European journeys and letters, were published posthumously by her son Richard Chenevix Trench as 'The Remains of the Late Mrs. Richard Trench' bringing her literary voice to light. She also wrote poetry and social essays, making her an intriguing early female author of the period.
