A 17th century Dutch blue and white pottery tile depicting an angel speaking to a disciple. Circa 1680.

Dutch Delft blue and white pottery is a distinctive ceramic tradition that emerged in the Netherlands during the 17th century. Inspired by imported Chinese porcelain, Delftware artisans developed their own style using tin-glazed earthenware decorated in cobalt blue.

Common motifs include windmills, ships, floral patterns, biblical scenes, and everyday Dutch life. Produced mainly in the city of Delft, these ceramics ranged from plates and tiles to vases and decorative figurines.

Delft blue pottery became a symbol of Dutch craftsmanship, trade prosperity, and artistic adaptation, remaining popular and collectible worldwide today.
