A Finnigans of New Bond Street ostrich skin waste paper bin, circa 1950.

The storied house of Finnigans emerged in 1830 in Manchester, before expanding to London with a prestigious shop at 18 New Bond Street in 1879. Renowned for exquisite craftsmanship, Finnigans produced luxury trunks, travelling bags, silverware and timepieces, attracting illustrious clientele including the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers. They balanced traditional leather-goods skills (saddlery, trunks) with innovation, adapting their products to rail, automobile and air travel.

The New Bond Street branch closed in 1968, and the family business ceased trading in 1988, yet Finnigans pieces remain sought after by collectors today
