A refined French kidney-form side table, dating to circa 1900, elegantly combining richly figured kingwood, a shaped marble top, and finely cast ormolu mounts. With its graceful outline and carefully balanced decorative detail, the table is a handsome example of the enduring French taste for luxurious materials and accomplished cabinetmaking at the turn of the 20th century.
The serpentine kidney-shaped top is inset with marble, its smooth surface enclosed by a delicate gilt-metal gallery. Beneath, the kingwood veneered frieze and curved sides display the warm, lively grain for which this exotic timber is prized.
