A late 15th - early 16th century Castilian school polychrome carved figure of the Mater Dolorosa - The Blessed Virgin Mary portrayed as Our Lady of Sorrows. The face is hauntingly beautiful with a look of anguish and despair. A fine and rare example of Spanish Renaissance art. This carving would have been for personal devotion.
